Big Fish Recap 9/17/09 - Can't Win 'Em All

The Band is back together and ready for another championship run. With the Swami back and the Cobra Kai’s back at full strength the team was ready to start the season off on a tear. However, a last second scratch from the starting rotation for Mad Dog left the ball in “Oil Can” Sprague’s hands and his savvy veteran crafty work. Sprague’s dueled it out with the heft heater CC Bathia of the PHI whom pitched a gem himself and helped himself out at the plate as well.

It has yet to be determined what exactly PHI stands for…….according to Wikipedia it could either be a symbol for a Greek fraternity or a Thai Demon. I am leaning toward a Thai demon because this game will haunt us for some time as the PHI SS and pitcher put a curse on us and got inside our heads from the beginning. As is the case for the momentum driven Kai we stalled in our first game back since the gut wrenching loss in the championships last season. “Our bats just never got rocking and rolling and I intend to change that by setting the pace and not allowing anything but our best from every hitter this Friday” The Swami said at the post game news conference.

The PHI got on the board early as they sprayed hits all over the field attacking every open piece of dirt and/or grass they could find. Our defense was solid and provided the few highlights we had as Sprague’s doubled off some unsuspecting runners with heads up fielding and the Swami was back patrolling CF with his deadly cannon.

However, our bats just never put together that rally that sparks our momentum. Perhaps missing Roundhouse Reger or perhaps our apprehension from the shell shock we received in the final championship game was to blame. Either way, I don’t suspect the Intimidators will be let off the hook as lightly this Friday night. The Kai are coming ready to play and rumor has it the Tomahawk Chopper himself JW has been called up for one last appearance before heading off to serve his country.

The Kai battled till the end but without a spark at the plate we just fell short in the runs necessary to compete. Well, in the immortal words once again of the great literary poet Mr. Forest Gump…..”That’s all I have to say about that.”

Only time will tell…….but the intimidators best watch out this Friday night under the lights.
